College Support Project :-

The College Support Project was formed by us in 1994 and has consistently provided college bursaries for 12 students per year since then. Our student’s are all from very poor families living in rural West Bengal who would not otherwise be able to afford a college education, nor would they be able to find gainful employment.

Many of our former student’s are now in full time employment working as teachers, engineers, pastors, etc.

In 2010 we made it a requirement for all our students to teach other local children in their village, thus giving something back into their community.

In 2011 we made it a requirement that to qualify for one of our college bursaries each student must provide free lessons for at least 20 children aged between 5 and 10 years of age for at least 2 hours a day, 5 days a week in their home village.  In support of the scheme, Stepping Stones has also committed to providing books and study materials for the children.  A tall order you may think, but in this way we are now regularly educating 140 children per week.

You could fully sponsor one or more of our students for as little as £15 per month

If you would like to support  any of these projects, please go to the ‘support’ page and download a donations form, use the Paypal link, or email us for  more information.

Thank You!

Village Outreach Team:-

Our full time village outreach team consists of 4 workers who support 5 very poor village communities all within a 20 mile radius in West Bengal.
Headed up by Brother John Halder their purpose is to develop relationships with the villagers so as to understand what the real needs are and then to establish programmes that will enable them to deal with and overcome the effects of poverty. These include providing safe drinking water through deep tube wells, children’s education programmes, medical and health advice and clinics, clothing, food and medicine distribution as well as one to one support. There work often includes assisting villagers to access other available support from government sources or other charities, churches and NGO’s.
Our workers also provide mid week prayer and bible studies, Sunday worship for adults and Kids clubs for the little ones. Although this is a predominantly Hindu area local people are generally very appreciative of our workers efforts.
